Common Life Insurance Misconceptions

As a licensed Life Insurance agent, I have heard all the Life Insurance objections. It will be too expensive. I don't want to have a health exam. I already have it through work so I am all set. Recently I posted a LinkedIn poll to drill down on the number one objection.

Well, "Have it through work. All Set!" was the indisputable leader. That is completely understandable. I can certainly remember my life before I was an insurance agent. I worked for many companies where benefits were offered and, often, explanation of the coverage was complicated and hard to follow. Very often, the life insurance you have through work offers a benefit amount 1 or 2 times your salary. Furthermore, your employer-funded life insurance is very often not portable, which means you cannot take it with you if you leave the job. Two considerations here: Is 1 or 2 times your salary enough to support your family if you pass? If you start working at a company at age 30, for example, and you leave at age 40 without the life insurance coverage, you are 10 years older and life insurance is more expensive as we age. That's why you should consider additional life insurance even if you have some coverage through your employer.
